Eden… a song of circles
Eden
Be wary, young soldier, what garden you seek.
Price of admission is well out of reach.
Eden is fair, oh! Fair as can be…
But she isn’t for you and she isn’t for me
.
So pick up your satchel and be on your way
Nothing to see here, why linger today?
Nothing to see here but heaven’s reprise
A circle complete and you are outside
.
Well Jonny and Willie once soldiered with me
They found their reward in some ceme-tary.
Their footsteps still echo right beside mine
On a road leading no-where in time
.
So pick up your satchel, there’s a good lad
Back to the road now, it isn’t so bad.
Roses are blooming and silver doves fly
Leaving a feather for no one to find
.
Old guard declaring their last in the hall
Sergeant arriving to sharply recall
loyal ones to take a place in the ranks.
For some, though, a smile of no thanks
.
So pick up your satchel and be on your way…
.
A heart of new fire, a strand of old dreams
A song to inspire what might have been
A song to inspire a phoenix to rise
A feather of fire from long ago sky
.
So pick up your satchels , there’s a good lad
.
Wake as from slumber and sharply recall
There isn’t a place for you in the hall
There isn’t a place save out on the trail
and they count on you son, so try and not fail
.
And pick up your satchel and be on your way…
.
What use for old soldiers when fighting is done?
Who wants to keep hearing of battles they won.
Cheer well their glory in the fresh air of May
As long as by June they are well on their way.
.
So pick up your satchel and be on your way…
.
Be wary, young soldier, what garden you seek.
Price of admission is well.. out.. of.. reach…
.
