Whippoorwill calls! Herald of evening.
Songs in the night, mem’ry of day.
Whippoorwill calls! But only in darkness.
All of his world, showered in shade.
(Chorus)
Let the tune flow. No matter what’s around!
Lift your voices, and let your hair hang down!
Let the tune flow.
For night’s not the ony time to sing.
There is more than just nighttime to sing
Whippoorwill heard, one time in daylight
Chickadee started singing like spring.
Whippoorwill heard, could not believe his ears
Surely, night was the only time to sing.
Whippoorwill spoke to ask the chickadee
“Why are you singing your song in the day?”
Whippoorwill spoke, “What if someone hears you?”
Chickadee chuckled and to him did say,
Whippoorwill asked, “Don’t others get angry
When you sing songs at times other than night?”
Whippoorwill asked and Chickadee answered,
“Songs are both for times of shadow and light!”
Whippoorwill thought as Chickadee asked him,
“Why is it you limit your song to eve?”
Whippoorwill thought, Chickadee requested,
“Sing me your song now before daylight leaves”
So Whippoorwill sang song daylight had not heard
Chickadee sat back and viewed with a grin
Whippoorwill sang his whole soul empowered
New found freedom given new hope within
Let the tune flow. No matter what’s around!
Lift your voices, and let your hair hang down!
Let the tune flow.
For night’s not the only time to sing.
There is never enough time to sing!
