The Chalice

The Chalice
© 2005 George Reed

In goblet of gold are wrought dreams of old–
Wishes for a spark of better days.
Safely there to keep inspiration deep,
All we do to flourish and amaze.

Our people are a vessel of a season gone before
Our people dream of peace, art, and light and war.
Our people come together to sing beneath a star
Tale of where we’ve been, where we go, who we are.

Some see a knight and feel a yen to fight,
To earn favor of a lady fair.
Others see a craft and suddenly they have
To learn how to make beauty rare.

Drink of the chalice if you wonder why
A hundred thousand songs fill the even sky
Drink of the chalice and you are on your way
To join us tomorrow in golden yesterday

Surrounding a field are pennon and shield
All bow to a shining throne.
Gentle hands are kissed, knights within the list
Display how valor has grown

Our people are a vessel of a season gone before
Our people dream of peace, art, and light and war.
Our people come together to sing beneath a star
Tale of where we’ve been, where we go, who we are.

A child in need of grand heroic deeds
Casting wish upon even star
Magic displayed, their dream in bright array
From a wish surrounding where they are

Drink of the chalice if you wonder why
A hundred thousand songs fill the even sky
Drink of the chalice and you are on your way
To join us tomorrow in golden yesterday

Come share the sight of a season gone before
You can dream of peace, art, and light and war.
We all come together to sing beneath a star
Close your eyes and dream and you’ll be where we are.
