Seneschal

Seneschal

Someone asked me yesterday what my personal thoughts were on the Society Seneschal Position. Well there are lots, but in particular some popped up relative to when people force me to resolve a local thing….

Seneschal
© 2005 George Reed

I am not your father.
I am not your king.
I will not rule your shire,
But I will come and sing.

I will not rule your household
I am not a shield
Though–at need–I’ll be one
for the weak upon the field.

If you see me coming
with an anvil in my hand,
perhaps its time for running
to the corners of the land.

I very rarely wield it,
this anvil I have got.
It leaves a wake behind it,
whenever it is dropped.

You never really see it,
the burden that is mine
With every anvil falling
I die a bit inside.

And yet there is a freedom
in the people that I see,
who do great things for others.
Thats all I ever need

to sustain through the shadows
I try to keep away
from our many thousands,
so they can go and play.

No, I am not your father.
I am not your king.
I cannot fix your shire.
I’d rather come and sing.
