Rising Moon

Rising Moon
© 2005 Kathryn Kibellus

Our spirits are bound to the road, friends.
Our souls and our horses are one.
We’re not satisfied unless we’re traveling somewhere
The moment that night becomes dawn.

Rising moon in the heavens,
Rising moon guiding me,
Let me reach my destination.
Rising moon, hear my plea!

No matter the weather we’ll ride on.
No blizzard or rainstorm we heed.
We know our friends will anxiously wait our arrival
As toward end of journey we speed.

Rising moon in the heavens,
Rising moon guiding me,
Let me reach my destination.
Rising moon, hear my plea!

Across borders between our kingdoms
Across open landscapes we roam.
We seem to live our lives on the backs of our horses.
Where we lay our head down is home.

Rising moon in the heavens,
Rising moon guiding me,
Let me reach my destination.
Rising moon, hear my plea!

Much time is spent in our traveling.
Much fun is made to entertain.
We share songs, and tell stories, and when the whim strikes us,
Our voices will sing this refrain:

Rising moon in the heavens,
Rising moon guiding me,
Let me reach my destination.
Rising moon, hear my plea!
