Glory
Glory
© 2005 George Reed
It was winter, wind blew cold…
Telling tale of battles old…
Of valour people sing…
Service to a child king…
Raising high father’s sword…
Swearing out holy word…
“We must fight infidel…
Send immortal souls to hell…”
All glory waiting there…
All glory known…
Of my soul I freely share…
With king and lord…
Feel the wind…see the stars…
Sailing forth…journey far…
To a land few have seen…
Breathing name of gentle queen…
Five hundred ships upon the sand…
Army for the holy land…
Enemy with flashing blade…
Calling for Allah’s aid…
All glory waiting there…
All glory known…
Of my soul I freely share…
With King and lord…
Join battle, helm and shield…
Toil on bright honour’s field…
Rise and fall in shining arc…
Sword arms strive, dawn to dark…
When its quiet…no glory here…
Joy has fled, turned to fear…
Bloody armor on the ground…
The last… crusader has gone down…
All glory waiting there…
All glory known…
Of our souls we freely share…
With king and lord…
Lady waits in castle bare…
With no mate for it to share…
Child king on his throne…
Kingdom for to rule alone…
All glory escaping there…
All glory known…
Few of them returning home…
Children waiting all alone
