Dark Ride

Dark Ride
© 2005 George Reed

Come to me tall, fair sons, harken to my plea
We go to meet our future, seeking destiny.
Too long we sat within our hall waiting for a dawn
Too long we turned eye away and let the sin go on.

I don’t know if we’ll lose or win
But my soul will fly free again

I cannot sit in ancient stone safe from all the war
I have to recall what’s worth fighting for
My sons will grow and face the day and not have to ask why.
I have taught them to be bold, riding out with pride.

I don’t know if we’ll lose or win
But my soul will fly free again

Can you feel morning come, sun claiming sky?
I may not be greeting it, but my spirit flies.
After years of cowering behind redoubted walls
I will go with honor whether I stand or fall

I don’t care if we lose or win
My soul will fly free again

Beware you of injustice, the Hammer rides again
Not a thing of if, instead a thing of when
My children and my brothers are all at my side
And we will find you at end of the ride!

I don’t care if we lose or win
My soul will fly free again

Swiftrunner,

I have been looking for the artist for Dark Ride and Brotherhood since I first started in the SCA… I heard them on a mixed tape of SCA songs in 1995. The tape was borrowed from my swordbrother, and has long since disappeared

I nearly warped the thing transcribing those two songs.

This year, you camped with us at Estrella, and I did not know you to be the artist for them.

I hope to have a chance to hear you sing them in person, perhaps some other time with the Dreamchaser.

Taran
