Behold, there is a candle
Behold, there is a candle

Behold there is a candle burning in the night.
Rarely is it seen as more than just a light.
Something shining in the dark to show someone a way,
Then put aside upon a shelf to use another day.
If you do not like the flame or it’s burning hue,
It can just be put away, another one will do.
Who will see the tears that run down a candle stick
And know the burning takes a toll on the fading wick?
But if by chance that candle comes to learn its place
Will the flame not sputter and flutter out a space?
That is not a problem, there are always more to hand
Just take another off the shelf and put it on the stand.
Something shining in the dark is a luxury
Not the sort of thing you take as necessity
Darkness always is and was and will forever be
Around the world even if none may candle see
Something shining in the dark, see the special hue.
Easy things to leave behind, another one will do.
Whomever has a candle burning in the night.
May never know it to be more than just a light.
When its time is ended and light has faded way
No one will remember it was there come light of day
