Away

Away
© 2005 George Reed

I dreamt I was on a sailing craft at sea and saw the story below.

Weeks later, while in misty, rainy mountans in Virginia, I wrote the below song..

Away…a siren’s tale..

Far away I can see where you stand, can it be
Tomorrow’s tomorrow never for me?

In the end I will come, though I be undone
A vision of your smiles I will see

My sisters and I great oceans espy
Singing cloud, and moon, and rain
Each time we call, hand of doom falls
No ship ignoring our refrain

My sisters are dark, born without heart
Their joy is measuring doom
My heart is alive. My soul yet thrives
Singing my love across all the gloom

Far away I can see where you stand, can it be
Tomorrow’s tomorrow never for me?

I behold captain tall whom sisters would call
To steer his Galleon ‘neath a dark wave
But his heart I can see and it sings to me
Will he be bound for watery grave?

A Siren must wait, a Siren is fate
Taking a hand in the day
My task by the sea, collecting the fee
Whilst my heart would steer him away

Far away I can see where you stand, can it be
Tomorrow’s tomorrow never for me?
In the end I will come, though I be undone
A vision of your smiles I will see

Though I sing him away, much to my dismay
His ship approaches for yet a while
Against any choice I can captain’s voice
Vowing to one day see me smile

Then at last he does turn, no sailor fee earned
My sisters ire dread to behold
Ship out of sight, I smile in the night
For brave one now may live to be old

Far away I can see where you stand, can it be
Tomorrow’s tomorrow never for me?
In the end I will come, though I be undone
A vision of your smiles I will see

With dawn rosy pale I spy a small sail
Guiding it forth, unearthly and bright
Comes light born in love and fluttering dove
Captain, alone, sails into sight

He found what to do by himself without crew
Never to risk his fellows where
He would sail, he would sing, and do anything
To embrace sweet siren waiting him there

Far away I have seen where you stand, can it be
Tomorrow’s tomorrow ever with me?
In the end I have come and I will not be undone
Vision of your sweet smile I see
