All Saints Day

All Saints Day
© 2005 George Reed

Cathedral calling, rain is falling, mist keeps the way.
Gentle drumming, harpist strumming bidding me to say
Long ago as people know ere November ray
A light foretold story old. We sing on All Saints day!

Winding journey to the tourney—several must come
Herald calling, foeman falling, battle to be won.
Ealdorman to lead the van as never he had done.
Sainted few to guide us through as the river runs.

Itzhak’s pride serves well his bride–valor bold and rare
Was seen by all within the hall, skill beyond compare.
A captain fell beneath the swell of autumn, rolling sea.
Alaric’s spell was sweet Noelle and earned a victory.

Dragon warms beyond the storms, furling summer wing
Bidding all to enter hall to lift you up and sing
From the heart of they who are to lead us in the spring.
Swift knight rare and lady fair, make their high hall ring!

Summer wanes, autumn tamed beneath Rebekah’s hand
Daughter bright and valiant knight to rule, one day, Her land
Brannos proud salutes the crowd–a son has come to stand
Lion roars as not before in winter splendor grand.

Whilst you be at tapestry and other winter craft
Hone your skill for summer will surely come to ask
Stand you tall–vow your all–as often in the past
Giving token, saints have spoken, summons come at last.

Dragon new, one of the few, shall stand atop the keep
Of dragon’s guard and look afar beyond the winter sleep.
Bards will tell how dear Noelle can his heart to leap.
In valor bold, whispers of old, fealty sown deep.

Cathedral calling, new rain falling, misted is the way.
Noelle’s bright Alaric, knight, inspires me to say
Time has come for battles won beyond November ray
Light foretold this story old. We sing on All Saints day
