A pirate song for my friend Donnan

A pirate song for my friend Donnan
© 2005 George Reed

My good friend Donnan–one of the Gambino’s from Pennsic,”Fahgeddaboudit!”–had a birthday and earned a song. He was prince in Oertha twice…and the story his houshold tells is that once a prince equals a viscount, and twice equals a biscuit. So they declared him the Biscuit pirate….

and I found out.

and I am going there this weekend.

He’ll probably hurt me, but what the heck…a little filk of one of my own pieces..

Biscuit Pirate Be

Weigh hey! Biscuit Pirate be
Out upon the Sea!
Hot rum running in his veins,
Servin’ steel for tea!

I first took ship at twelve years old, oh so young and green.
Twenty years a pirate bold–many a sight I’ve seen.
Finest I’ve seen by far, Port Royale to Malabar,
Time of peace, time of war, the Biscuit Pirate he

Cryin’”Weigh hey! Biscuit Pirate be
Out upon the Sea!
Hot rum running in his veins,
Servin’ steel for tea!”

Some will rue sailor’s due before the bosun’s glare.
Some’ll quake at scabbard scrape when powder fills the air!
Bravest tar that ever sailed d’rather eat a roaring gale
Than feel his heart within him fail when the Biscuit Pirate he

Cryin’”Weigh hey! Biscuit Pirate be
Out upon the Sea!
Hot rum running in his veins,
Servin’ steel for tea!”

Come if you dare, silly sheep he’ll shear ye’ head to heel!
He’s made jolly Dutchmen weep and haughty Spaniards kneel.
Come brig and frigate don’t you know he’ll strip ye’ clean and send ye low
You’ll have grog with Davey Jo beneath a rollin’ keel!

Donnan’s reigned a time or two, this we have seen.
Taken up a belt of white and served many a queen!
But have you seen the new pin stripes approaching with elation
From hat to spats he’s all of that across the many nations..

Cryin’”Weigh hey! Biscuit Pirate be
Out upon the Sea!
Hot rum running in his veins,
Servin’ steel for tea!”
