For Austrechild von Mondsee

For Austrechild von Mondsee
© 2004 George Reed

Swift with a word and light with a song, as her friends all cheer along
In joy to see her dreams come to light.
Morning breaks, sky is clear and I am wishing she were near
To share with me wonders that she writes.

Austrechild, may your journeys soon end.
Austrechild, treasure, apprentice, friend.

Author of the learned books, causing mischief with a look
Summer spun in a spirit rare
Laughter in her dancing eyes, music that could well surprise
Blessing all around in being there

Kind to all as she goes, singing for the gentle rose.
Beloved of the star in desert night.
She knows the lore of the crusade, plays a tune in forest glade
For the weak she will ever fight.

Austrechild, may your journeys soon end.
Austrechild, treasure, apprentice, friend.

Summoned to go hence afar, I have no sense of where you are
I can only sit and hope alone.
Pray let her journey safely end, bring to me my trusted friend
Bring my apprentice safely home

Austrechild, may your journeys soon end.
Austrechild, treasure, apprentice, friend.
